To date, CDC Group has investments in over 1,200 businesses in emerging economies with total net assets of £6.5bn and an impressive portfolio of £4.7bn. But success is not without its own challenges. Whilst the organisation has been growing rapidly, so has the workload, and in 2019, CDC found its legal team in need of flexible resources to help manage periods of high demand for general commercial advice and allow the internal team to focus on its core role of investment support.
Obelisk was able to place highly-skilled senior commercial lawyers to pick up the extra work and help the team as and when they need it.

Obelisk’s legal support service has been designed to be simple and easy to get started with. Based on a detailed understanding of the work the CDC team needed help with, Obelisk set up a small team of consultant lawyers to support a variety of general commercial contract work. When there is a requirement for advice from another practice area, Obelisk adds extra consultants to the team as needed.
